Our Policies

Child Protection Policy

The welfare of children is our first priority. It is Buttercups' responsibility to ensure that:

- Each and every child is protected from abuse, whatever their age, culture, disability, gender, racial origin, language or religious belief, and

- Committed staff monitor with care and attention to provide a safe, secure and happy environment.

All staff are required to have an enhanced DBS (Criminal Record check) prior to being left alone with any child. Buttercups nurseries have a named member of staff responsible for Child Protection within each nursery setting. Buttercups will respond appropriately to any allegations or suspicions of abuse; they will be treated and dealt with in a prompt and sensitive way, following our Child Protection Policy.

Our staff are trained in paediatric first aid to ensure the safety of your child.

Throughout the nursery our child-to-adult ratios are maintained according to Ofsted requirements.

Health and Safety Policy

Buttercups understands that the health and safety of your child is of fundamental significance to you. All Buttercups nurseries have named members of staff responsible for Health and Safety, SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator), Fire Marshalling and Behaviour Management. All staff are regularly trained in our Health and Safety Policies.

Food: Buttercups ensures that great care is taken to present meals, where the food is cut into small pieces, enabling your child to eat enjoyably and safely. For these reasons, we have our own strict regulations regarding food shape i.e. we do not serve your child whole grapes, cherry tomatoes, whole meatballs and any other foods with potential to cause difficulty in swallowing.

Equipment: Our indoor and garden toys and equipment are regularly checked and maintained; if necessary they are withdrawn from play activities until they are fully secured as safe for your child. Baby toys are sterilised regularly to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Your child will have their own bed linen and attention to personal hygiene is made an integral part of your child’s daily activities.

Illness: All Buttercups staff undertake regular training in paediatric first aid to ensure the safety of your child. If your child becomes unwell whilst in our care, we will make every effort to contact you and if necessary you will be asked to come and collect your child. The nursery will inform you of any contagious / infectious illness that we are aware of. Please contact our Head Office for further details in our Terms and Conditions.

Security Policy

Buttercups believe that the security and protection of your child are of paramount importance. All of our nurseries have secure door entry phone systems and you and your child will be greeted by a member of staff on arrival. Our nurseries are fitted with internal safety and security equipment on all stairs and doors.

You can be assured that under no circumstances will your child be allowed to leave Nursery with anyone unknown to the Nursery staff unless you have previously arranged this. To ensure this, each parent is required to provide their child’s Nursery with information regarding every responsible adult who will be allowed to collect a child. This includes the adult’s name, relationship to the parents, a brief description of the individual, a password and contact details.

The majority of our nurseries are equipped with CCTV, with cameras monitoring activity in play rooms, sleep rooms, entrance halls and outside our buildings.
